I also love the fact that planescape: torment is the only crpg that has the main player character be immortal, unable to die, right from the beginning of the game. In planescape: torment you can oben that box and deal with the consequenses. In skyrim youre given box and said, dont open it, deliver it to this guy and that is the only thing you can do with it. In skyrim yes, you can in a way be whatever you want but it never gives you option to lie or cheat or solve the quests in any other way expect what the developers had pre-determined. Not any open-world or character creation nor hundred hours worth of side-quests and questlines.

While it didnt let you make your own character nor was it open world it had the best role playing ever. How does the game world treat the player? Is the player that worlds Jesus by default (like in Skyrim) or can the player enter the world and be a nobody?Ĭan the player speak? If not, what is the dialogue system like? Is it like Morrowind where you pick a topic and imagine the dialouge yourself, or does it already have pre-existing words for your character to say?Ĭan the player have his own motives/back-story, or is that chosen for them? Even with the main-storyline, does the character follow it for a pre-written reason, or can you decide why they follow it? I'll use a few games here as good/bad examples of roleplaying Games that the player can follow the story-line with their own motives or allow them to diverge away from it and live their own world?
